are young people aged 4 to 6 years, who gather in groups called Squirrel Dreys…Each Drey is led by an adult Squirrel Leader along with other adults who are on hand to support activities, share their skills and keep everyone safe. Other young people aged 14 to 18 might help out, too. These may be Explorer Scouts taking part in the Explorer Scout Young Leader programme or D of E Bronze Award Volunteering section.
Within their Drey, Squirrels are part of a Nest. A nest is a smaller group of Squirrels.
Being a Squirrel is all about having fun, making friends and learning core life skills through adventure, outdoor play, games and community involvement, all whilst discovering who they are through a simple promise and working towards badges that build confidence, resilience, teamwork and a positive contribution to the world. They explore big ideas like kindness and helping others in their Drey with lots of laughter and exploration.
Soon you’ll be able to purchase a Squirrel uniform for your Squirrel to wear to meetings and camps. Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone to feel a part of the Drey. It also gives Squirrels a place to show off all the badges they earn.
For Squirrels, the uniform consists of a bright red sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured necker to represent 1st Tiddington Scout Group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts. Uniform can either be bought from the online shop – Scout Store – or from a local supplier or another online shop.
1st Tiddington Scout Group has 1 Squirrel Drey:
